The Art of Design

Picture
I've been in the industry for over a decade now, and seen the inner-workings of development from start to finish.  There are many interesting ways to start, but all products finish in the same way: in the hands of other people.  I have shipped over 15 titles in multiple capacities and been a part of every department of a game team, from gameplay and balancing, to modeling environments and characters.  From writing dialogue for in-game cut-scenes to coming up with stories for missions.

Making games has always been about more than simply giving players a challenge, it is about crafting an an experience, no matter what the device.  That experience can be many different things, but ultimately, it has to be something that has been designed with a group of users in mind.  Over the years, the amount and kinds of users has grown and diversified dramatically.  Today's gaming landscape offers something for everyone, and will only continue to evolve as does the way we consume digital content.  A new device means a new opportunity to explore unique experiences!

The Essence of the Industry

I grew up in the 80's & 90's playing games in the early days when Nintendo's main rival was Sega.  From Mega Man to Shining Force and Metroid to Panzer Dragoon - there are far too many great games to mention here!  Regardless of what games I played growing up, the games we play today continue to grow, evolve and surprise me.
